It hurts
to care
it hurts
to love
it hurts
to want
to dream
to hope
to be
it hurts.
but in this life
you’ve got to try
because you can’t
spin away
in your shell
slide away
down
inside.
you’re not alone
you’re not an island
in the middle
of nowhere.
so put it all
in your pocket
and get outside
no matter how much
sometimes
it hurts
to put on your jacket
slide on your shoes
comb your unruly hair
face the crowd
and smile.
Even on that island,
Leagues from society,
Even in complete isolation,
Life hurts.
Life is change,
Continual death of the previous moment,
Life is the cascaded collection
Of those infinite deaths,
Each as painful as the last
Until,
Finally
One becomes the last.

Thank you, Skye! Yes, you do have to keep trying. I think a lot of people’s problems stem from not admitting that things affect them emotionally but we are emotional beings. I hurt, sure, but I love and I am happy because I accept that I feel. All things pass and life is as beautiful as it is painful.

Amen…and we, as poets, get to write about the ebb and flow of those emotions!! All love…or all pain…may get rather boring. 🙂 Have a great day or evening depending where you are on this planet!!
